Years & Years’ Top 10 Best Songs RANKED

Years & Years are one of the UK’s biggest breakthrough acts of recent years! They’ve sold over 2.5 million albums and 15 million singles worldwide. Their debut album ‘Communion’ reached number one in the UK, and propelled the band to be nominated for four BRIT Awards. Its ambitious follow-up, ‘Palo Santo’, saw the band reach even greater heights, headlining London’s O2 Arena and embarking on a mammoth European tour.

Ahead of their Newmarket Racecourses headline show on Friday 16th August, we’ve put together a list of their Top 10 best tracks! Let us know if you agree…

10 . “Palo Santo” (2018)

Yeas & Years released their second studio album, Palo Santo, in 2018. This is a concept album, set in the fictional world of Palo Santo, where traditional rules regarding gender and sexuality do not exist. Check out the short film they made about the album here.

9 . “All For You” (2018)

All For You was one of three singles released from their studio album Palo Santo. This catchy pop track is sure to be on their set list this summer, so turn up the volume and learn the lyrics!

8. “Meteorite” (2016)

Meteorite was written by all three members of the band for the soundtrack of Bridget Jones’ Baby. Although it didn’t make as big an impact in the UK Charts, it is a staple on their set list and a great track not featured on their studio albums.

7. “Eyes Shut” (2015)

Since its release in 2015, Eyes Shut has gone Platinum in the UK selling over 600,000 copies! Be sure to check out the music video for this track, featuring Olly Alexander exploring the remains of a post-apocalyptic society.

6. “Sanctify” (2018)

Sanctify was the lead single from their second studio album Palo Santo. Although this track only reached Number 25 in the UK Singles Chart, it was voted the 3rd hottest record of the year in 2018!

5. “Shine” (2015)

In 2015 Annie Max premiered this track as the Hottest Record in the World! Shine was the fifth single from Years & Years’ debut album Communion.

4. “Play” | Years & Years with Jax Jones (2018)

This playful track reached Number 8 in the UK Singles Chart and the top spot in the UK Dance Chart. Jax Jones was keen to work with Years & Years’ frontman Olly Alexander because of his unique voice.

We love this collaboration, along with it’s fun music video!

3. “Desire” (2014)

Desire was the band’s third single and was later rereleased featuring singer Tove Lo. A great track that shows off Olly’s amazing vocals!

2. “If You’re Over Me” (2018)

This Platinum selling track reached Number 6 in the UK Singles Chart. It’s one of our favourite Years & Years tracks, you just can’t help but dance to it!

1. “King” (2015)

King entered at the top of the UK Singles Chart with a combined sales-streaming figure of 101,000 copies, making it Years & Years’ first number-one single!

In an interview with Rolling Stone, frontman Olly Alexander said: “When we recorded [the song], no one felt good about it. It sounds lame! And we could never fix it. We shelved it for awhile. When we came back to it, we just took a different approach: ‘Let’s try to make it an Eighties dance-pop track.’ And we just started out with that, cut it all up, arranged it.”
